X-detected-operating-system: by monty-python.gnu.org: Genre and OS details not recognized. The docstring for defcustom's keyword `:link' states: "You can specify the text to use in the customization buffer by adding `:tag NAME' after the first element of the LINK-DATA; for example, (info-link :tag "foo" "(emacs)Top") makes a link to the Emacs manual which appears in the buffer as `foo'." Shortly thereafter a description of defcustom's keyword `:tag' states: ":tag LABEL Use LABEL, a string, instead of the item's name, to label the item in customization menus and buffers." If these two uses of 'tag' have identical context, then the `:tag NAME' descriptor of the `:link' section should clarify this and/or change 'NAME' -> 'LABEL'. If the context of 'tag' is mutually exclusive then _that_ should be clarified. As presented, it is not clear if `:tag' has different meanings within defcustom forms according to where it occurs. s_P ;;; ============================== In GNU Emacs 23.0.95.1 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.12.12) of 2009-06-19 on slaptop Windowing system distributor `The X.Org Foundation', version 11.0.10402000 Important settings: value of $LC_ALL: nil value of $LC_COLLATE: C value of $LC_CTYPE: nil value of $LC_MESSAGES: nil value of $LC_MONETARY: nil value of $LC_NUMERIC: nil value of $LC_TIME: nil value of $LANG: en_US value of $XMODIFIERS: nil locale-coding-system: iso-latin-1-unix default-enable-multibyte-characters: t Major mode: Fundamental Minor modes in effect: diff-auto-refine-mode: t shell-dirtrack-mode: t show-paren-mode: t display-time-mode: t tooltip-mode: t mouse-wheel-mode: t menu-bar-mode: t file-name-shadow-mode: t global-font-lock-mode: t global-auto-composition-mode: t auto-encryption-mode: t auto-compression-mode: t size-indication-mode: t column-number-mode: t line-number-mode: t transient-mark-mode: t Recent input: Recent messages: From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Tue Jan 26 17:59:30 2010 Received: (at control) by debbugs.gnu.org; As presented, it is not clear if `:tag' has different meanings within defcustom forms according to where it occurs. The first talks about using :tag inside `info-link'. The second about using :tag in the `defcustom' top-level. It seems pretty clear to me, and I know next to nothing about `defcustom', so I think this doesn't need clarification. -- (domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.) bloggy blog http://lars.ingebrigtsen.no/ From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Fri Jul 15 15:16:20 2011 Received: (at 3639) by debbugs.gnu.org; 15 Jul 2011 19:16:21 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1] helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1Qhns4-0005Vm-5D for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Fri, 15 Jul 2011 15:16:20 -0400 Received: from mail-iw0-f172.google.com ([209.85.214.172]) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1Qhns1-0005VX-Np for 3639@debbugs.gnu.org; Fri, 15 Jul 2011 15:16:18 -0400 Received: by iwn39 with SMTP id 39so1329443iwn.3 for <3639@debbugs.gnu.org>; Fri, 15 Jul 2011 12:16:12 -0700 (PDT) MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.42.153.4 with SMTP id k4mr1253215icw.255.1310757372029; Fri, 15 Jul 2011 12:16:12 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.231.18.19 with HTTP; Fri, 15 Jul 2011 12:16:11 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: References: <878wjln1b4.fsf@sandpframing.com> Date: Fri, 15 Jul 2011 15:16:11 -0400 X-Google-Sender-Auth: 9hQ2u-7usnL-9It-BgNYxSpOv3U Message-ID: Subject: Re: 23.0.95; defcustom docstring ':link' ':tag' NAME and/or LABEL?
