Hi,

I finally found the bug: My locale was not the default one:

$ echo $LANG
de_DE.UTF-8

After setting it LANG=C emacs works with tabbar, reftex, and ecb!

So the question is, why?

Maybe you retry to reproduce the bug by setting LANG to the German locale?
