This happens with latest master, after make bootstrap:

1) emacs -Q
2) M-x eshell

eshell-mode: Symbol’s value as variable is void:
eshell-variable-aliases-list

Eshell starts, but the prompt cannot be seen (and by default, eshell-prompt
is enabled).

Bisecting points to 0d5e83611e5157800fd855fe8e3f60c8eff0af7c
