It's because of the obscure construct below from `ispell-command-loop' which has max-lines equal 0 in the small window case and 11 in the large window case. So choices simply don't get inserted into the buffer in the small window case. (defun ispell-command-loop (miss guess word start end) [...] ;; ensure 4 context lines. (max-lines (- (ispell-adjusted-window-height) 4)) [...] (while (and choices (< (if (> (+ 7 (current-column) (length (car choices)) (if (> count ?~) 3 0)) (window-width)) (progn (insert "\n") (setq line (1+ line))) line) max-lines)) I don't have the slightest idea what this is necessary for and suppose that the calculations are off by one or two anyway. Maybe the reason is that choices buffers can't (or shouldn't) be scrolled. You can try to replace the binding by something like (max-lines (- (ispell-adjusted-window-height) (if guess 4 0))) but this just slightly improves things. martin From unknown Sat Jun 21 05:18:17 2025 X-Loop: help-debbugs@gnu.org Subject: bug#3413: 23.0.94; ispell choices buffer display problem References: <87octcj1i4.fsf@escher.local.home> In-Reply-To: <87octcj1i4.fsf@escher.local.home> Resent-From: martin rudalics Original-Sender: "Debbugs-submit" Resent-CC: bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org Resent-Date: Thu, 25 Dec 2014 10:38:02 +0000 Resent-Message-ID: Resent-Sender: help-debbugs@gnu.org X-GNU-PR-Message: followup 3413 X-GNU-PR-Package: emacs X-GNU-PR-Keywords: To: "3413@debbugs.gnu.org" <3413@debbugs.gnu.org> Cc: Stephen Berman Received: via spool by 3413-submit@debbugs.gnu.org id=B3413.141950382732307 (code B ref 3413); Thu, 25 Dec 2014 10:38:02 +0000 Received: (at 3413) by debbugs.gnu.org; 25 Dec 2014 10:37:07 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:56926 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.80) (envelope-from ) id 1Y45n0-0008P1-L5 for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 25 Dec 2014 05:37:06 -0500 Received: from mout.gmx.net ([212.227.15.15]:51439) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.80) (envelope-from ) id 1Y45my-0008Os-Cz for 3413@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 25 Dec 2014 05:37:04 -0500 Received: from [88.117.118.144] ([88.117.118.144]) by mail.gmx.com (mrgmx001) with ESMTPSA (Nemesis) id 0Ltqb7-1Xvsk43JNV-0117g1; Thu, 25 Dec 2014 11:37:01 +0100 Message-ID: <549BE8C5.9050506@gmx.at> Date: Thu, 25 Dec 2014 11:36:53 +0100 From: martin rudalics MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-15; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Provags-ID: V03:K0:YsWmGVf/ty7+17bajOGlB4v9vkSDDtcOnMhL/J4TJOmdswatWgG 6JnNTD8ME5Rl0gjuIVpNtrQWon6DU9KSV2idjb5+KYNvA/TVEszQ8v3dvctJP72YH1VXaB1 N6F8re0niiGiXYarXd3nOkGhIfXIYQJPuZfAjic90CnEWr43WOKfnyHpG+EbN4ZGLqNwCQw vlY7BXewYa3QY1qCgw95Q== X-UI-Out-Filterresults: notjunk:1; X-Spam-Score: 0.0 (/) X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.15 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: 0.0 (/) > 1. emacs -Q > 2.
