Hi,

        I get the following error when invoking "C-x C-v"
        '(find-alternate-file)' roughly, like this:

0. src/emacs -Q &

1. C-x C-r lisp/abbrev.el

2. C-X C-v lisp/*.el

window-normalize-buffer-to-switch-to: Wrong type argument: stringp,
(#<buffer abbrev.el> #<buffer align.el> #<buffer allout-widgets.el>
#<buffer allout.el> #<buffer ansi-color.el> #<buffer apropos.el>
#<buffer arc-mode.el> #<buffer array.el> #<buffer auth-source-pass.el>
#<buffer auth-source.el> ...)


         This works as expected in Emacs 26.1.

branch into feature/tramp-thread-safe, the solution is available here as well.
