as I said: one just has to edit the file at first. So the steps to
reproduce the bug should be:

1. type return ; type backspace
2. set editing to octave-mode (M-x octave-mode).
3. mark the entire line "x = pi ;" as a region
4. issue the command `octave-send-region' (C-c C-i r).
