What's the command line option to tell it to stop using color? Many people can't discriminate colors unless they're set up by a color professional who understands color vision.  Most aren't. And I can't see it. On my private configurations, I can set them to turn off font-lock mode, but from the command line, even --eval='(global-font-lock-mode 0)' doesn't seem to be working. Incredibly frustrating. Perhaps the configuration explicitly enables font-lock? Why not use -Q so you don't have to deal with random configurations? emacs -Q --eval='(global-font-lock-mode 0)' I don't there is any command line option to disable colour in graphical mode. Possibly you could disable font-lock later, e.g., emacs --eval='(add-hook (quote after-init-hook) (lambda () (global-font-lock-mode 0)))' To completely get rid of all colour, you could evaluate: (dolist (face (face-list)) (when (face-foreground face) (set-face-foreground face 'unspecified)) (when (face-background face) (set-face-background face 'unspecified))) (again, this would probably have to be done in the after-init-hook, if the configuration makes its own colour settings to faces) From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Mon Apr 02 20:09:46 2018 Received: (at 31032) by debbugs.gnu.org; 3 Apr 2018 00:09:47 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:35620 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1f39WE-00055w-Nt for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 02 Apr 2018 20:09:46 -0400 Received: from mail-pl0-f52.google.com ([209.85.160.52]:40497) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1f39OM-0004T2-F1 for 31032@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 02 Apr 2018 20:01:38 -0400 Received: by mail-pl0-f52.google.com with SMTP id x4-v6so6337602pln.7 for <31032@debbugs.gnu.org>; Mon, 02 Apr 2018 17:01:38 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=google.com; s=20161025; h=subject:to:cc:references:from:message-id:date:user-agent :mime-version:in-reply-to:content-transfer-encoding:content-language; bh=MbVKRUg+eabhk81oK7nCtaYvB0AXVtuCCAiA92YtA6o=; b=wOa8g1BROqVMLIPIHPSWIss102DzZcAw3kYcny/jP5MiYgyZjEFU3pd79Z5OSbvLU/ TUOFK8DG7RdP4Ia2jqnv4qNhKO20pccFAByahJX329mviJ+HU4XkfkrjY7s44Gu4OMMW QABloRPkeCNxaRsUQ6yEajRyfl25WjZpT0jCweCcCOSOJbdaw9EXlnyEfC0RIOvaSy50 g5xWHQW8ojEbgnelsgHEoyLz1SuHTYYUs9s3yCAz4yNR2410SeN0yDqNhQksm4559jyz D57OQYjD51GfjQE6Z1SkukvcboB7gtzTiDdCy4qAHXW/9GGxKBeJi71V+pWUJ8uY6vgk oJMw== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20161025; h=x-gm-message-state:subject:to:cc:references:from:message-id:date :user-agent:mime-version:in-reply-to:content-transfer-encoding :content-language; bh=MbVKRUg+eabhk81oK7nCtaYvB0AXVtuCCAiA92YtA6o=; b=tnFzd9zRIUanDAZ/mw9muCQVgxi19smNCfKp9uHbFt0GH1qNPRYI+E+BGWJhA7sfYU UkJKseqmAlJNw9DNJeMw/GkgRZeexzrB8pvWgHHNt5urnyHWQ5o32zeWT1+0t6iAClB7 qRfdq1TrSVwcHAXoqZ5ejeVcsjU0gbOjYFJYiAcRySJ+Dh2hWu6cMsseyEikg2NBQTJn TgUbdPUfMKAoblSwb+9E+2+ADbnLqTlm1QMlif9HLw1sO+b75RJcbJheMHVM/7w00WWR uljlbGd4gFTMTzkz4R51Xrx1gyzSCIFXv33zwRFoxWKhssjxznVyKBHicfzP7V31aaCz 6hOA== X-Gm-Message-State: AElRT7GVoMM3WMx/yN/PwXhMqDOU6Cd7Jwcs0QkzXDhYaKyY7mw0lpca CL6h22oY2euPtvJQjs5aoa8Uxg== X-Google-Smtp-Source: AIpwx4+PD7YBvdSaMlatBS8zUFwzh4zQHTzW4NXxnVs/egVymaOh+v9vETtyLFeDWj1sxEwzDivypw== X-Received: by 2002:a17:902:7889:: with SMTP id q9-v6mr11884423pll.237.1522713692435; Mon, 02 Apr 2018 17:01:32 -0700 (PDT) Received: from pixleyr.svl.corp.google.com ([2620:15c:2c5:2:9f68:bd1a:e1ae:d88a]) by smtp.gmail.com with ESMTPSA id b25sm2516393pfc.59.2018.04.02.17.01.31 (version=TLS1_2 cipher=ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 bits=128/128); Mon, 02 Apr 2018 17:01:31 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Re: bug#31032: can't read emacs - unusable To: Noam Postavsky References: <995ce322-8a59-5314-116d-72efe126efa8@google.com> <87vad9nq2z.fsf@gmail.com> From: K Richard Pixley Message-ID: <45724bdf-4ee9-a49b-8a53-ac0a09f9f389@google.com> Date: Mon, 2 Apr 2018 17:01:30 -0700 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/52.6.0 MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: <87vad9nq2z.fsf@gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Language: en-US X-Spam-Score: -0.0 (/) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: 31032 X-Mailman-Approved-At: Mon, 02 Apr 2018 20:09:44 -0400 Cc: K Richard Pixley , 31032@debbugs.gnu.org X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -0.0 (/) Thank you.
