The issue is that glibc 2.26 deprecated the "compat" query type of the Name Service Switch. We discussed this previously in . One can adjust to the change by either using the nscd daemon [0] or editing /etc/nsswitch.conf and replacing instances of 'compat' with 'files'. On Debian Stretch, I found that `apt-get install nscd` was sufficient. I'm going to merge this report with #30298. [0] We already "strongly recommend" using nscd: https://www.gnu.org/software/guix/manual/html_node/Application-Setup.html#N= ame-Service-Switch-1 --PNTmBPCT7hxwcZjr Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCAAdFiEEsFFZSPHn08G5gDigJkb6MLrKfwgFAlqLbDEACgkQJkb6MLrK fwhezRAApUxphQ435TyFoiIvSDmD1bL/sNR1b1uoitPdabbXjz0ZJGzoGf0lxdM9 SYbRFIUGm8MakS23BgMYn3d7avWCrkUM9arddMbcGeAUMkvV5QwydHtFXhGjXdHY YZeLh9CAeIQ2Ce45YMHcy66jzLVjv8eiHcDpFWjpIZvrNq0TQucZEtxrxF/PRrRM EnzNfDX0ireSZvGE4HtOyvLw+xZ3N9AtntO3iOgDpbt2ncKA+kh7bjUEsZ1OpxD+ HlhV0jVUjlLPsjuL/haW0rnNpu/Ygj1Spm5GKTxKn7bkffYCtjQ7lDgIt9BU9HHR OzuiUYzy+c5H2MPqCsgeJdbNIqddC7hKUlUbq2wB7Vq/hwyl8OBWmvrL6QBy308p IDwF9buPt6MbbAPqS2giFibmlYV/TKS8HTm94d6eT2mkcnHHfR4W8KXw9UbCcYwY 6WQEsUkhSFLANiPn9PoiF3nNePq/QV2qQkxBV3fMTEWbnVrLCh2x75YDAqkmptTl lm6FHDWQGPjtJ1FQ0gRVY057eejCTWdB1A7xAeTDape1vKPn/NASrFC9EGxMVTEt sxtB6VQfIkH3t30voljVX76ccH7dpAKuNn03QUszf39zNfqqkWgPgV93D4U+ok+w nj1YpxEDAsz2O5Str3Za1q35LyEJOycFZdAIWqm0EOJoWyZ2CjE= =cLBx -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --PNTmBPCT7hxwcZjr-- ------------=_1519086661-3069-1 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Received: (at submit) by debbugs.gnu.org; 19 Feb 2018 23:07:08 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:51794 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1enuWZ-0007ET-Os for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 19 Feb 2018 18:07:07 -0500 Received: from eggs.gnu.org ([208.118.235.92]:33072) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1enuWX-0007Dp-Uc for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 19 Feb 2018 18:07:06 -0500 Received: from Debian-exim by eggs.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1enuWO-0002jI-2I for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 19 Feb 2018 18:07:00 -0500 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.3.2 (2011-06-06) on eggs.gnu.org X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-1.9 required=5.0 tests=BAYES_00 autolearn=disabled version=3.3.2 Received: from lists.gnu.org ([2001:4830:134:3::11]:48633) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtps (TLS1.0:RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA1:32) (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1enuWN-0002jB-V3 for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 19 Feb 2018 18:06:56 -0500 Received: from eggs.gnu.org ([2001:4830:134:3::10]:52263) by lists.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1enuWM-0002w3-Uz for bug-guix@gnu.org; Mon, 19 Feb 2018 18:06:55 -0500 Received: from Debian-exim by eggs.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1enuWI-0002g8-Tn for bug-guix@gnu.org; Mon, 19 Feb 2018 18:06:54 -0500 Received: from hera.aquilenet.fr ([185.233.100.1]:54192) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtps (TLS1.0:DHE_RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA1:32) (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1enuWI-0002fW-N3 for bug-guix@gnu.org; Mon, 19 Feb 2018 18:06:50 -0500 Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by hera.aquilenet.fr (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1942111941; Tue, 20 Feb 2018 00:06:48 +0100 (CET) X-Virus-Scanned: Debian amavisd-new at aquilenet.fr Received: from hera.aquilenet.fr ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (hera.aquilenet.fr [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id ScVvyS2vcMRm; Tue, 20 Feb 2018 00:06:47 +0100 (CET) Received: from jurong (unknown [IPv6:2001:910:103f::c1e]) by hera.aquilenet.fr (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 6E83251B; Tue, 20 Feb 2018 00:06:47 +0100 (CET) Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2018 00:06:45 +0100 From: Andreas Enge To: bug-guix@gnu.org Subject: ssh: No user exists for uid 1000 Message-ID: <20180219230645.GA5650@jurong> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.9.3 (2018-01-21) X-detected-operating-system: by eggs.gnu.org: GNU/Linux 2.2.x-3.x [generic] [fuzzy] X-detected-operating-system: by eggs.gnu.org: GNU/Linux 2.6.x X-Received-From: 2001:4830:134:3::11 X-Spam-Score: -5.0 (-----) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: submit X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -5.0 (-----) Hello, it looks like the glibc change when merging core-updates caused us to be bitten by a bug that is known on NixOS: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/31762 When I type "ssh whatever" (literally, or replacing "whatever" by a real server name), then the error message No user exists for uid 1000 is printed and the ssh command is not executed.
