Are you sure you reconfigured to after this commit and rebooted or
otherwise had the nscd service upgraded?  You can double- or
triple-check, it’s never too much.  :-)

If after that you’re sure it’s still crashing, can you try (as root):

  herd stop nscd
  mv /var/cache/nscd/hosts{,.bak}
  herd start nscd

Does it make a difference?
