Yes, this page is about library character-fold+.el, not vanilla Emacs (e.g. library character-fold.el). The first thing in the Commentary of character-fold+.el says this: ;; NOTE: This library is NOT UP-TO-DATE WRT EMACS 25. You might want to take a look at the behavior (UI, customization possibilities etc.) provided in character-fold+.el. Maybe your fix could incorporate some of that, if helpful. (Haven't looked at it. Just suggesting you maybe take a look, if you haven't already.)
