I've skimmed this thread -- the original bug was about `C-g' not working
when Gnus hangs.  I think this has likely been fixed -- Gnus now binds
`inhibit-quit' to nil when bits of Gnus are running off of a timer.  (In
Emacs 27.)

Do you see these problems in Emacs 27?
