People rarely change defaults, so we should give the option to use Google but default to for example searx.me or duckduckgo.com. I keep my configs in git and just pull them every time I set up a new system, so I wouldn't know if Icecat has always included Google and the others. I sort-of agree with both of you. :-) Using a centralized search engine, be it Google or DuckDuckGo or even searx.me, is a threat to privacy. Of course the dominating position of Google makes it worse than the others, but let=E2=80=99s not pretend the ot= hers are white as snow. Besides, this is a discussion to have with IceCat upstream IMO. There=E2= =80=99s nothing Guix-specific here. So I=E2=80=99d close this one as =E2=80=9Cwont= fix=E2=80=9D. WDYT? Ludo=E2=80=99. Among the changes that GNU IceCat makes to Firefox ESR: it makes DuckDuckGo the default search engine. Last I checked, that was indeed the case for our IceCat package. On my GuixSD system, I just tried the following: * Quit IceCat, and wait for the process to really be gone. * Move ~/.mozilla to ~/.mozilla-OLD. * Restart IceCat. and I found that DuckDuckGo was the default search engine. I'm not sure what you did, but I suspect that you had a ~/.mozilla directory in place where Google was configured to be the default search engine. Any response to this, ng0? Do you still believe that Google is the default search engine for our IceCat package? So: What I reported was on a new install from scratch. When I simply rename my .mozilla and start icecat so that a new profile is created, I get DuckDuckGo. Let's just close this, I have no idea what happened on the previous install. --=20 ng0 GnuPG: A88C8ADD129828D7EAC02E52E22F9BBFEE348588 GnuPG: https://krosos.org/dist/keys/ https://www.infotropique.org https://krosos.org --gabkw2poqb2f53qu Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEqIyK3RKYKNfqwC5S4i+bv+40hYgFAlnOGPMACgkQ4i+bv+40 hYgd1w//dWuLVIreSygBur63PfNmjNUT/iPVCMpsovkgzWP/QWAUz9oMq0nqk3tU yzmcbl9JaI9GMgHI0IgOCY/3mlW1WTPZxpCnyaoZVlD29LpG7YGFKyw8YfExaRhb /arEsuaoC3ci5bW20vuEckXT4QN/XmFjyBdrZlrhzrckM7yJXsiy9SMB76sIpUFh 4Ai7kjHC8sKppny2rgWodLGhLXDkuROReHgJyIW1cNMXqX0uC4RXn/r5BYqxDQWs 1op76xpnmEZk31jF8p7LTyjm4JvNrsTxWRELHi0ZcxLy8a2Q1nseHDVknPS5DgUi F6+eaulexXRF47N27GJX2qiVPl0OHsO5d5/khgozZb9Xx+G7YcNp/Us0t5//4vYo en5QEhZOaPYRnwxOYm4oXo0Qg5iDgH5X4Sil6L+Z8asiuTaOHMuIKwtls9ovBwIz uwC4rO7qRUvj+yUwOL7faGih5Yi91IMnsFuFeSbiINyoPQJykqDIMt62ex/Wn4bq z/d7zDWH/nCdl79AqfSWu5bbjCqeRYmxFxI4cVpY9ZnwebGJl+re8unTf4r2uSIt FVqVoUUmRx/ObczOsXqDrh7JCLS00ugdKUKoCr7vsmrkB2zpHUcyCbWpSeioAldY qLjtizN/i3gKOAxcwd35MFWg/gU7Mw11Q0XMpp6dFtPsKMunIK4= =S9S4 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --gabkw2poqb2f53qu--
