Make the Article buffer the only buffer. (C-x 1 from within it.)
Now proceed to type several
E [runs the command gnus-summary-mark-as-expirable].
On the last article it really should shift to a blank screen, instead of
replaying that last final article. Which, if the user is not smart, he will
think is just another next article.

GNU Emacs 25.2.2 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 3.22.17)

Well, this is how all the moving-around-in-the-summary-buffer commands
work (`d', etc).  I'm not sure there's anything to be done about it...
