I think that's a GNOME-specific thing, maybe? In any case, it overwrites values of SSH_AUTH_SOCK that the user actually sets (in ~/.pam_environment, for example). Would it be possible to remove that Environment line from the emacs.service file? Instead of guessing at what the value should be, maybe consider adding in the release notes or in the manual (if the systemd service has a section in the manual) that users can set the value of SSH_AUTH_SOCK by either 1) setting it session-wide in ~/.pam_environment, or 2) editing the emacs service file with "systemctl --user edit emacs.service" and adding something like below (replacing "%t/keyring/ssh" with the appropriate value): [Service] Environment="SSH_AUTH_SOCK=%t/keyring/ssh" Thanks, Alex From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sun Jul 21 11:12:52 2019 Received: (at 27620) by debbugs.gnu.org; 21 Jul 2019 15:12:52 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:59302 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1hpDW8-0006U9-1T for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Sun, 21 Jul 2019 11:12:52 -0400 Received: from quimby.gnus.org ([80.91.231.51]:59286) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1hpDW6-0006U0-81 for 27620@debbugs.gnu.org; Sun, 21 Jul 2019 11:12:50 -0400 Received: from [80.169.244.84] (helo=sandy) by quimby.gnus.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.2:ECDHE_RSA_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256) (Exim 4.89) (envelope-from ) id 1hpDW2-0004vY-05; Sun, 21 Jul 2019 17:12:48 +0200 From: Lars Ingebrigtsen To: Alex Branham Subject: Re: bug#27620: systemd environment SSH_AUTH_SOCK in emacs.service References: <87inj3q6gq.fsf@gmail.com> Date: Sun, 21 Jul 2019 17:12:45 +0200 In-Reply-To: <87inj3q6gq.fsf@gmail.com> (Alex Branham's message of "Sat, 08 Jul 2017 17:44:05 +0200") Message-ID: <878ssr5slu.fsf@mouse.gnus.org> User-Agent: Gnus/5.13 (Gnus v5.13) Emacs/27.0.50 (gnu/linux) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 X-Spam-Report: Spam detection software, running on the system "quimby.gnus.org", has NOT identified this incoming email as spam.
