The following minimal example

\documentclass{article}

\begin{document}
\begin{figure}
  \centering
  \caption{Math \(x=y\) and $x=y$.}
\end{figure}
\end{document}

$x=y$ is highlighted but \(x=y\) is not. Perhaps both should be highlighted?
