While this artifacting/delay is happening, any keyboard input seems to "refresh" the buffer and the text returns to normal. This happens with 'emacs -q' as well but it seems less noticeable than running Emacs normally. Note that I'm running X.org and Compton. This issue does not occur with 'emacs-nox'. I'm therefore closing the bug report. ------------=_1495204921-20834-1 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Received: (at submit) by debbugs.gnu.org; 19 May 2017 03:33:02 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:54179 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1dBYf0-0000nw-Dc for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 18 May 2017 23:33:02 -0400 Received: from eggs.gnu.org ([208.118.235.92]:33210) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1dBYA5-0008UR-PE for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 18 May 2017 23:01:06 -0400 Received: from Debian-exim by eggs.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1dBY9z-0004Fy-DA for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 18 May 2017 23:01:00 -0400 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.3.2 (2011-06-06) on eggs.gnu.org X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=0.8 required=5.0 tests=BAYES_50,FREEMAIL_FROM, T_DKIM_INVALID autolearn=disabled version=3.3.2 Received: from lists.gnu.org ([2001:4830:134:3::11]:40184) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtps (TLS1.0:RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA1:32) (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1dBY9z-0004Fs-AL for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 18 May 2017 23:00:59 -0400 Received: from eggs.gnu.org ([2001:4830:134:3::10]:52408) by lists.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1dBY9x-00037t-Sr for bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org; Thu, 18 May 2017 23:00:59 -0400 Received: from Debian-exim by eggs.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1dBY9w-0004FN-Q6 for bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org; Thu, 18 May 2017 23:00:57 -0400 Received: from mail-qt0-x231.google.com ([2607:f8b0:400d:c0d::231]:35935) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtps (TLS1.0:RSA_AES_128_CBC_SHA1:16) (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1dBY9w-0004F8-Hc for bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org; Thu, 18 May 2017 23:00:56 -0400 Received: by mail-qt0-x231.google.com with SMTP id f55so49125415qta.3 for ; Thu, 18 May 2017 20:00:56 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20161025; h=to:subject:from:message-id:date:user-agent:mime-version :content-transfer-encoding:content-language; bh=2Nm6v5EraPqN8qfG36srSBfuYxLULv+ehYc7sNhZ7ZU=; b=Fn24RZJH1s+ywF/05cwsmwBLwdouHmxmwnlddJ4DiIt7PifoEjwIHsZ9y1D1I72awi 0g8jDjatGoErc1DLBG/S8VqyEIGWza9OIDYZ5QZVpSRtRUiptOI7FDSqZRFx8CH029V3 adgCFuVKoVV5GU8sejH8VxarwripnGCuEzyGs9XynRoaqfMbQWfHcvWkfTKVldD0myS6 Hx3YuXVFpmnyZ7MZS6O+St9RAxfB/uzEUeFu9wJzbePI3h17UO5xjY8/AmGWGTB79cJ6 CEPxWs8NIorEC3SnnQI0C8HXCgJKfZn8JHBpW114W1bnSFLT5di7u5YUCXDZj1L96P32 tNNg== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20161025; h=x-gm-message-state:to:subject:from:message-id:date:user-agent :mime-version:content-transfer-encoding:content-language; bh=2Nm6v5EraPqN8qfG36srSBfuYxLULv+ehYc7sNhZ7ZU=; b=Wtm/Pdg7AMElK7qyzYTubT1joP3oOlNVuAoFaxZT5D3ZeTuNjU11Gegos4g2QPVGSO XXNRwvFtF8KdPMBfUGdoL2HEpWwurTMjDnDVMUv6CJt8yxhy/VaUc/n7m4lJtzBBYeh3 8lbfE1c9TDEOj7s07ca7THPRdB3ngd/mxDEcrooSlkcRhoKeI23W+N6UvMBS1KoEEPZo AjeS8pRgTKlCX9kw323/3HX0nDTU8qdBPhNTa6VHQRvC4jzR4ChlID+qYHWaHm/qnCah EiGpSeEJlCYVi5CP3cTIK+uuzF7F/v5h5375pAfDB8SpF/18kDf//e/cFeOp3cwUBEbP K8IQ== X-Gm-Message-State: AODbwcCIpXD6Ue7Wc5tWBCJG2vWQuYbi5jE7NIn3d4WOIacCFTjIlCpy gHYsvbv+UWK869jhpTc= X-Received: by 10.200.43.59 with SMTP id 56mr7193998qtu.202.1495162855278; Thu, 18 May 2017 20:00:55 -0700 (PDT) Received: from ?IPv6:2601:547:c400:1ea0::dca3? While this artifacting/delay is happening, any keyboard input seems to "refresh" the buffer and the text returns to normal. This happens with 'emacs -q' as well but it seems less noticeable than running Emacs normally. Note that I'm running X.org and Compton. This issue does not occur with 'emacs-nox'. System: - x86-64 Arch-Linux on linux-lts kernel, latest updates - Lenovo ThinkPad T550, Intel Core i7 vPro, 16 GB RAM - X.org, Compton, GTK+ 3.22.10 Steps to reproduce: 1. Open any file with text using C-x C-f, or make a new file and type some text 2. Place cursor somewhere before a line of text, hit ENTER (once or repeatedly) 3. OR for a larger file, scroll up or down slightly with the mousewheel --- In GNU Emacs 25.2.1 (x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 3.22.10) of 2017-04-22 built on juergen Windowing system distributor 'The X.Org Foundation', version 11.0.11903000 Configured using: 'configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --libexecdir=/usr/lib --localstatedir=/var --with-x-toolkit=gtk3 --with-xft --with-modules 'CFLAGS=-march=x86-64 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe -fstack-protector-strong' CPPFLAGS=-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 LDFLAGS=-Wl,-O1,--sort-common,--as-needed,-z,relro' Configured features: XPM JPEG TIFF GIF PNG RSVG IMAGEMAGICK SOUND GPM DBUS GCONF GSETTINGS NOTIFY ACL GNUTLS LIBXML2 FREETYPE M17N_FLT LIBOTF XFT ZLIB TOOLKIT_SCROLL_BARS GTK3 X11 MODULES Important settings: value of $LANG: en_US.utf8 locale-coding-system: utf-8-unix Major mode: Emacs-Lisp Minor modes in effect: text-scale-mode: t tooltip-mode: t global-eldoc-mode: t electric-indent-mode: t mouse-wheel-mode: t tool-bar-mode: t menu-bar-mode: t file-name-shadow-mode: t global-font-lock-mode: t font-lock-mode: t blink-cursor-mode: t auto-composition-mode: t auto-encryption-mode: t auto-compression-mode: t line-number-mode: t transient-mark-mode: t Recent messages: For information about GNU Emacs and the GNU system, type C-h C-a.
