What does it do? I think it's M-x table-insert now. I can reproduce this bug, FWIW. Weirdly, too, the text takes a bit to appear although the cursor moves forward. I can reproduce the bug in Emacs 27, and looking at the code in `table--cell-insert-char', it's just not used when inserting a character -- even if the mode is on, words are never broken. The code has been substantially rewritten over the years, and my guess is that one of the rewrites made the code that actually did the fixed-width-mode went missing, but finding what commit did this is rather difficult. -- (domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.) bloggy blog: http://lars.ingebrigtsen.no From unknown Tue Sep 09 22:28:44 2025 X-Loop: help-debbugs@gnu.org Subject: bug#26701: 25.1; table-fixed-width-mode broken Resent-From: Lars Ingebrigtsen Original-Sender: "Debbugs-submit" Resent-CC: bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org Resent-Date: Wed, 01 Dec 2021 18:50:02 +0000 Resent-Message-ID: Resent-Sender: help-debbugs@gnu.org X-GNU-PR-Message: followup 26701 X-GNU-PR-Package: emacs X-GNU-PR-Keywords: confirmed To: Forrest Sedgwick Cc: 26701@debbugs.gnu.org Received: via spool by 26701-submit@debbugs.gnu.org id=B26701.163838459023188 (code B ref 26701); Wed, 01 Dec 2021 18:50:02 +0000 Received: (at 26701) by debbugs.gnu.org; 1 Dec 2021 18:49:50 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:45619 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1msUfu-00061v-LZ for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Wed, 01 Dec 2021 13:49:50 -0500 Received: from quimby.gnus.org ([95.216.78.240]:56716) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1msUfs-00061g-RU for 26701@debbugs.gnu.org; Wed, 01 Dec 2021 13:49:49 -0500 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; q=dns/txt; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gnus.org; s=20200322; h=Content-Type:MIME-Version:Message-ID:In-Reply-To:Date: References:Subject:Cc:To:From:Sender:Reply-To:Content-Transfer-Encoding: Content-ID:Content-Description:Resent-Date:Resent-From:Resent-Sender: Resent-To:Resent-Cc:Resent-Message-ID:List-Id:List-Help:List-Unsubscribe: List-Subscribe:List-Post:List-Owner:List-Archive; bh=kkcOvSzw0bm5QL3mZom0q/kGEzhVelGqEMBJvqM21iE=; b=lHz4a59BgLdzLOrmq8xrHHOACE UP5wAt2ps1C+q1D4+VTO/ACEnqmBIiK4/crS/DxP2b5aiBNu69q2QgfI+ECluQxM5a6+80oV++xeI L+FuRXHAyxNuGhYeDysNquZ4MW+mGWQPLSzMfIDqCEskzIm5ftX2WdL4yeaMgWVhnjGY=; Received: from [84.212.220.105] (helo=xo) by quimby.gnus.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.3:ECDHE_RSA_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256) (Exim 4.92) (envelope-from ) id 1msUfj-0001eH-IL; Wed, 01 Dec 2021 19:49:42 +0100 From: Lars Ingebrigtsen References: X-Now-Playing: DJ Rupture's _Curiosity Slowdown_: "Curiosity Slowdown (part 3)" Date: Wed, 01 Dec 2021 19:49:34 +0100 In-Reply-To: (Forrest Sedgwick's message of "Fri, 28 Apr 2017 12:27:10 -0700") Message-ID: <87pmqgi2ip.fsf@gnus.org> User-Agent: Gnus/5.13 (Gnus v5.13) Emacs/29.0.50 (gnu/linux) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain X-Spam-Report: Spam detection software, running on the system "quimby.gnus.org", has NOT identified this incoming email as spam.
