As a general feature, I don't think there's that much use for it, because it's a bug if a mode clears out `text-scale-mode' (and other minor modes) when the command regenerates the buffer. So I've now fixed that in the help functions in Emacs 29 -- by finally rewriting `with-help-window', which is something I've been planning to do for years, anyway. -- (domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.) bloggy blog: http://lars.ingebrigtsen.no From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Fri May 13 11:02:47 2022 Received: (at control) by debbugs.gnu.org; 13 May 2022 15:02:47 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:44550 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1npWoZ-0008Cl-9v for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Fri, 13 May 2022 11:02:47 -0400 Received: from quimby.gnus.org ([95.216.78.240]:38498) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1npWoY-0008CK-KN for control@debbugs.gnu.org; Fri, 13 May 2022 11:02:46 -0400 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; q=dns/txt; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gnus.org; s=20200322; h=Subject:From:To:Message-Id:Date:Sender:Reply-To:Cc: MIME-Version:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding:Content-ID: Content-Description:Resent-Date:Resent-From:Resent-Sender:Resent-To:Resent-Cc :Resent-Message-ID:In-Reply-To:References:List-Id:List-Help:List-Unsubscribe: List-Subscribe:List-Post:List-Owner:List-Archive; bh=bwqHgiIX4NDKQI2XxGsc/eF8oC0sITSLH6mfQx+mSPg=; b=NVBbPOv6dYDZK4s83GAK4nPIH9 PEVuNSnwTGNAaU3tmGWVNW46Kd/PdwN2/QV8xRQ/a9bBeet3sBNdK9Ra/oM8H/hjowolQPX2S0pyc mZborOwU/nHzOqZvpYiDov/Y5XDE+iXX2P0bjBwc4OF0SfbTqc2RWFkavurRTbFzpG6Q=; Received: from [84.212.220.105] (helo=xo) by quimby.gnus.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.3:ECDHE_RSA_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256) (Exim 4.92) (envelope-from ) id 1npWoQ-0001sI-Kl for control@debbugs.gnu.org; Fri, 13 May 2022 17:02:40 +0200 Date: Fri, 13 May 2022 17:02:38 +0200 Message-Id: <87bkw1scfl.fsf@gnus.org> To: control@debbugs.gnu.org From: Lars Ingebrigtsen Subject: control message for bug #25979 X-Spam-Report: Spam detection software, running on the system "quimby.gnus.org", has NOT identified this incoming email as spam. I guess you're saying that users still don't have the choice requested, and that instead of getting only the behavior of starting over they only get the behavior of starting with the same scaling last used. I don't think either behavior makes sense for all users, or even for the same user all the time. Which is why I requested a way for users to choose. The fact that a buffer has the same name - or the same mode (dunno which you're using for the choice you've made) - is not determinate in terms of what a user wants. E.g., *Help* might in one case show lots of text, and a user might want to scale it down, to show all of it (just one example). But it doesn't follow that that same user wants *Help* with some other content to be shown at the last scaling. Please reconsider, to let users easily choose the default behavior _they_ prefer. That's what this enhancement request is.
