Please assist in debuggin this random crash behavior because it is
troubling to say the least.

Please run Emacs under GDB, and when it crashes, type at GDB prompt

  thread apply all bt

and post here what that produces.

From the shell prompt, type "gdb /path/to/emacs/emacs", then when GDB
shows its prompt "(gdb)" type "run" and hit RET.

They are both the same executable, probably hard-linked to the same
data on disk.  Check out what "ls -l" says about the number of links.

See the last line: you need to install additional packages to produce
information about the crash which will allow us to make proghress with
this problem.
