That commit actually changed the timeout from a hardcoded 2, and makes the timeout configurable. So I think setting xterm-query-timeout to nil is the right thing here. Perhaps even a nil xterm-query-timeout should be the default? That's mainly in reference to this comment: There is a comment in xterm--query saying "Maybe we could always use the asynchronous approach, but it's less tested." In other words, the timeout was left in because of worries about adverse side effects. But there aren't any known problems for the asynch method (as far as I can see). =E2=80=93 npostavs May 9 '18 at 16:00 Best regards, Stefan Kangas From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Wed Aug 12 10:48:01 2020 Received: (at 25097) by debbugs.gnu.org; 12 Aug 2020 14:48:01 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:45147 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1k5s2q-000193-RS for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Wed, 12 Aug 2020 10:48:01 -0400 Received: from eggs.gnu.org ([209.51.188.92]:33310) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1k5s2p-00018r-9w for 25097@debbugs.gnu.org; Wed, 12 Aug 2020 10:47:59 -0400 Received: from fencepost.gnu.org ([2001:470:142:3::e]:35244) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.90_1) (envelope-from ) id 1k5s2j-0006OA-TJ; Wed, 12 Aug 2020 10:47:53 -0400 Received: from [176.228.60.248] (port=2369 helo=home-c4e4a596f7) by fencepost.gnu.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.2:RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA1:256) (Exim 4.82) (envelope-from ) id 1k5s2j-0000sf-0E; Wed, 12 Aug 2020 10:47:53 -0400 Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2020 17:47:44 +0300 Message-Id: <83eeobor8v.fsf@gnu.org> From: Eli Zaretskii To: Stefan Kangas In-Reply-To: (message from Stefan Kangas on Wed, 12 Aug 2020 07:18:22 -0700) Subject: Re: bug#25097: 25.1; Scratch buffer flashes with emacsclient and xterm References: <87vabwl4pf.fsf@gmail.com> <83o8ngnecn.fsf@gnu.org> MIME-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-Spam-Score: -2.3 (--) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: 25097 Cc: jake.waksbaum@gmail.com, npostavs@gmail.com, 25097@debbugs.gnu.org X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -3.3 (---) > From: Stefan Kangas > Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2020 07:18:22 -0700 > Cc: npostavs@gmail.com, jake.waksbaum@gmail.com, 25097@debbugs.gnu.org > > > I don't see how such a conclusion follows from that discussion; what > > did I miss? > > That's mainly in reference to this comment: > > There is a comment in xterm--query saying "Maybe we could always use > the asynchronous approach, but it's less tested."
