Does it work to turn this:

        if (FRAME_ICONIFIED_P (f) &&  ++tries > 100)
          break;

into this:

        if ((FRAME_ICONIFIED_P (f) || FRAME_VISIBLE_P (f)) &&  ++tries > 100)
          break;
