I managed to do what I wanted with:
(defun insert-into-buffer (buffer text)
(let ((buffer-window (get-buffer-window buffer)))

(with-current-buffer buffer
(beginning-of-line)
(insert text)

(with-current-buffer buffer
(beginning-of-line)
