It seems your message was lost and not answered to in 2 years. Sorry 
about that.

The first line of 'man wc' says:

   wc - print newline, word, and byte counts for each file
===

And similar wording is used through-out (and in 'wc --help').

As such, I'm closing this bug.
Discussion can continue by replying to this thread (and concrete patches
are very welcomed to improve wording).
