This is the intended behavior: this control character (and a few more)
are by default displayed as a thin (1-pixel) space.  You can customize
glyphless-char-display-control if you want a more prominent display.
You can also customize the glyphless-char face, if changing the color
makes the cursor more visible.

OK I guess showing it this way is good in that otherwise I would not
have noticed this undesired character in my filename!
