After strace’ing “xfce4-session” when clicking on the shutdown button in the Xfce menu I see the same error returned over DBus. xfce4-session sends “PowerOff” to “org.freedesktop.login1” via DBus and gets “org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InteractiveAuthorizationRequired” back, which causes the whole thing to fail. (I wonder why it doesn’t use the fallback mechanism to shut down, but maybe that’s because it detected systemd/logind and committed to shutting down via DBus.) So maybe it’s not fine after all. ~~ Ricardo From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Mon Feb 29 04:30:00 2016 Received: (at 22565) by debbugs.gnu.org; 29 Feb 2016 09:30:00 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:51856 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84) (envelope-from ) id 1aaK9P-0007IU-R4 for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 29 Feb 2016 04:30:00 -0500 Received: from eggs.gnu.org ([208.118.235.92]:59636) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84) (envelope-from ) id 1aaK9O-0007IH-9K for 22565@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 29 Feb 2016 04:29:58 -0500 Received: from Debian-exim by eggs.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1aaK9F-0000WM-3K for 22565@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 29 Feb 2016 04:29:53 -0500 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.3.2 (2011-06-06) on eggs.gnu.org X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-1.9 required=5.0 tests=BAYES_00,RP_MATCHES_RCVD autolearn=disabled version=3.3.2 Received: from fencepost.gnu.org ([2001:4830:134:3::e]:54257) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1aaK8Y-0000Oa-1M; Mon, 29 Feb 2016 04:29:06 -0500 Received: from pluto.bordeaux.inria.fr ([193.50.110.57]:53842 helo=pluto) by fencepost.gnu.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.2:RSA_AES_128_CBC_SHA1:128) (Exim 4.82) (envelope-from ) id 1aaK8X-0000hs-Ca; Mon, 29 Feb 2016 04:29:05 -0500 From: ludo@gnu.org (Ludovic =?utf-8?Q?Court=C3=A8s?=) To: Ricardo Wurmus Subject: Re: bug#22565: Cannot talk to upowerd over D-Bus References: <87powbgrdi.fsf@gnu.org> <8737sr570u.fsf@elephly.net> <87lh6dr89f.fsf@gnu.org> <87si0cat0v.fsf@elephly.net> X-URL: http://www.fdn.fr/~lcourtes/ X-Revolutionary-Date: 11 =?utf-8?Q?Vent=C3=B4se?= an 224 de la =?utf-8?Q?R?= =?utf-8?Q?=C3=A9volution?= X-PGP-Key-ID: 0x3D9AEBB5 X-PGP-Key: http://www.fdn.fr/~lcourtes/ludovic.asc X-PGP-Fingerprint: 3CE4 6455 8A84 FDC6 9DB4 0CFB 090B 1199 3D9A EBB5 X-OS: x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu Date: Mon, 29 Feb 2016 10:29:03 +0100 In-Reply-To: <87si0cat0v.fsf@elephly.net> (Ricardo Wurmus's message of "Mon, 29 Feb 2016 08:13:20 +0100") Message-ID: <87lh63kgps.fsf@gnu.org> User-Agent: Gnus/5.13 (Gnus v5.13) Emacs/24.5 (gnu/linux) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-detected-operating-system: by eggs.gnu.org: GNU/Linux 2.2.x-3.x [generic] X-Received-From: 2001:4830:134:3::e X-Spam-Score: -5.0 (-----) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: 22565 Cc: Andy Wingo , 22565@debbugs.gnu.org X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -5.0 (-----) Ricardo Wurmus skribis: > Ludovic Court=C3=A8s writes: > >> Ricardo Wurmus skribis: >> >>> I=E2=80=99m trying to figure out why we cannot use the Xfce menu to shu= t down or >>> reboot, and while doing that I found that >>> >>> loginctl poweroff >>> >>> (as root on the TTY) does have the intended effect.
