I can reproduce this problem in Emacs 28 (on the Linux console). Switching `auto-composition-mode' indeed fixes the problem, so perhaps we should just do that automatically when running on the console? Let's see... is that the lisp/term/linux.el file? Let's see... Yes, putting ;; Compositions confuse cursor movement. (global-auto-composition-mode -1) into that file fixes the issue for me on the Linux console, and does not seem to be triggered when running from a terminal, so I'll go ahead and push that change. --=20 (domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.) bloggy blog: http://lars.ingebrigtsen.no From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Mon Aug 16 08:49:32 2021 Received: (at control) by debbugs.gnu.org; 16 Aug 2021 12:49:33 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:48894 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1mFc3Y-0002AK-OQ for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 16 Aug 2021 08:49:32 -0400 Received: from quimby.gnus.org ([95.216.78.240]:43594) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1mFc3X-0002A8-46 for control@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 16 Aug 2021 08:49:31 -0400 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; q=dns/txt; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gnus.org; s=20200322; h=Subject:From:To:Message-Id:Date:Sender:Reply-To:Cc: MIME-Version:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding:Content-ID: Content-Description:Resent-Date:Resent-From:Resent-Sender:Resent-To:Resent-Cc :Resent-Message-ID:In-Reply-To:References:List-Id:List-Help:List-Unsubscribe: List-Subscribe:List-Post:List-Owner:List-Archive; bh=kldzZgZtfYU2MSSlUslO04dGfljgN+CMnmWMtJb927M=; b=MflikNOm6zq5v5RK3Q9Zjrg2G3 vAsasJXVBwxKUqpbyhFQV5NAelwH1Hgknu+5P0I7BZGkA64d924B058DUoCSwMCruNsWRsby6YFSO Yy1poflZLYAgVcN0rNDT6yaw85vcVdaLDF6SG55ce+yyobvxeMtOE8aS8euQ8M01jgOM=; Received: from [84.212.220.105] (helo=elva) by quimby.gnus.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.3:ECDHE_RSA_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256) (Exim 4.92) (envelope-from ) id 1mFc3P-0004v2-8s for control@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 16 Aug 2021 14:49:25 +0200 Date: Mon, 16 Aug 2021 14:49:22 +0200 Message-Id: <8735r9d06l.fsf@gnus.org> To: control@debbugs.gnu.org From: Lars Ingebrigtsen Subject: control message for bug #21363 X-Spam-Report: Spam detection software, running on the system "quimby.gnus.org", has NOT identified this incoming email as spam. So I guess we'll have to introduce a predicate for `global-auto-composition-mode' that would allow us to turn on auto-composition-mode only in buffers on certain terminals, I guess. -- (domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.) bloggy blog: http://lars.ingebrigtsen.no From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Mon Aug 16 10:15:15 2021 Received: (at 21363) by debbugs.gnu.org; 16 Aug 2021 14:15:15 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:50690 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1mFdOJ-0004y6-2y for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 16 Aug 2021 10:15:15 -0400 Received: from mout.gmx.net ([212.227.17.22]:32777) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1mFdOH-0004xO-34 for 21363@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 16 Aug 2021 10:15:02 -0400 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/simple; d=gmx.net; s=badeba3b8450; t=1629123294; bh=mr5KQKyhv5LhBE3wclY2qVY8IUk8t5H9weaAWOeNbRM=; h=X-UI-Sender-Class:From:To:Cc:Subject:References:Date:In-Reply-To; b=TCsINfBJ6XSpPPiz57GB32voSLJt5zXsJz1jbtRwqtVgxyNDSoKI+WTlNTfHWefhB jQp4jZStVfGeZSE/PIV+dGUTELa+TDWrTWKBjHh+vbcoMO6aolCj13IcyNVQqaJtAZ AQ2NqnZiBHwsWlDAcZbij4ysP42aLLaYPMsC19nc= X-UI-Sender-Class: 01bb95c1-4bf8-414a-932a-4f6e2808ef9c Received: from strobelfs ([188.109.153.245]) by mail.gmx.net (mrgmx104 [212.227.17.168]) with ESMTPSA (Nemesis) id 1MbRjt-1mn3OZ1jSL-00budx; Mon, 16 Aug 2021 16:14:54 +0200 From: Stephen Berman To: Eli Zaretskii Subject: Re: bug#21363: 25.0.50; Some characters confuse display References: <874kbpd07z.fsf@gnus.org> <83czqd8r8p.fsf@gnu.org> Date: Mon, 16 Aug 2021 16:14:52 +0200 In-Reply-To: <83czqd8r8p.fsf@gnu.org> (Eli Zaretskii's message of "Mon, 16 Aug 2021 16:16:06 +0300") Message-ID: <87o89x328z.fsf@rub.de> User-Agent: Gnus/5.13 (Gnus v5.13) Emacs/28.0.50 (gnu/linux) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain X-Provags-ID: V03:K1:QVmkIMVW8Cv5vlfwq3Y9smOzn2GATYWBPyWgbCxI6Z94FTFyBBI k+U8jpMHfp3LWpNjA37seBTBkArZvLii1Fbod5DMj8TbioTOn/VLbWWArzWpwgexln9gt/X 4AUraSkod8IokzMOy7IjywlmdTCX7PNNYIfJvRKOyJzV+e0uYekDOctz5bDAOtpGRBqh7sS ZUw+u1jamoMSKnuZ+u2MA== X-Spam-Flag: NO X-UI-Out-Filterresults: notjunk:1;V03:K0:9+eYDcXFNPs=:jimcEq5/AZbULiKD7UkBGu ddOuooit3gN8jMBunAtRNafOT1BfhnZMaTxMPJF8R1kuO3tpjwJUkw/kyBPs5bSd0bWt9AXfD qf8sUlK5yutwSOmh+r2BGkGO+9Kq/T+qzLfXbaVpvBOJgUzetsJ2molm38Zx/IQFATPuwhhsN Q55/dNd8BbZNpoyxA1BT3oHlEkHVXyEp92f415BWSolkjcVUcFo3mW4CcS6hVXi6WXjVie/zi hPkHuet1negNs09l25wUZgLTlrvTXbD39rGYntmsxWH4OGUDg31v6A99xP6BwOWN2ptaNfma5 ZWv6PReuHFCRhnyRTOXFV19yoSxy0FR7unV0PD2GaengGRFONDz4iERaY/wvt3s4MWmEEJ0Ze kdfqvWeJdEhSWBzIED2dUe+yDWQx8zh+N5fWFSaIAaLAKs2iacVLpcQjKVI1Jx2aeON/r16vS 2yPuuLTS9fipdLBvSW3/C5iXs3OQpE5t7bBi9j2bS0LF5O1LE7Jdi0sPtkzr8jsPjSibMsmbi PjB80O4HAAIC9CyS9Lrs8Re6VU7AHRxvFgVbcuCZ2FYhvTuQnafAs1MCxyok6T6qFq5o7ddbH N+Z1rtwN9/o47+r4HyFYzIhvfS+72aOp9UaR860TcjfDBZlar5IjbOkUiSq9/HUCV00k1TTHe dyDPHEfjYCphY/6WePGREP07+RL84Hx8NXf7m8hy/41uTVl0spDeioplU2nW6wBFIs9UlcON6 Vn2xIK5HU45Y7F/3kNljhDSqaSn5Z3TPBsXf8xJ/PxGUlM38iu5cG4yo5lGTCkNVlDMndq5us qdokMzCDlJ15uDDu9aS2FyIjEIyfWAhxdt17w1tFLYvz0qS4O/GJMMLEybKz0uZg+P8j+F4xJ 6FuoRVgAzm5hielignOdC6KhC30kRdk22wASrqdFcnpeaFKiOUhUFpPbS2omFTGP5IpQb8Xl7 c60zbaRsGA21Eyox0IFMlRGKgR4+4c6eM7sNkUTNe4YTBHwj9ErlEmEfdpWvgrPo21wxEXQ2A nYYgLSFQh9wfuFKxKjKhalCWgO5XqHIy7PX+vHc2uyeFdcPRwpnQCWyDKHcVtwdJIxoHk6GIG toUrpO2Bzojs8pY+dQlVu5J715oyUww7kdsDH+ISUYoJOkaQW7GgowsYA== Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Spam-Score: 0.0 (/) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: 21363 Cc: 21363@debbugs.gnu.org, Lars Ingebrigtsen , rms@gnu.org X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -1.0 (-) On Mon, 16 Aug 2021 16:16:06 +0300 Eli Zaretskii wrote: >> From: Lars Ingebrigtsen >> Date: Mon, 16 Aug 2021 14:48:32 +0200 >> Cc: 21363@debbugs.gnu.org >> >> Switching `auto-composition-mode' indeed fixes the problem, so perhaps >> we should just do that automatically when running on the console? I can reproduce the problem on the Linux console and the proposed fix works for me: after disabling global-auto-composition-mode and then visiting the file containing that text, the problem is gone. (If I first visit the file and then disable global-auto-composition-mode (or just auto-composition-mode), I have to switch the buffer off the window and then back to it in order to get the correct display.)
