Hi, It seems that --color does not work for zgrep. Has anybody seen
the same problem? Is there a way to fix it?

It works for me with zgrep 1.6, e.g. "zgrep --color root /etc/passwd" shows the 
matches in color.  It didn't work in older versions of gzip.  What does "zgrep 
--version" say?  If zgrep --color is failing for you in 1.6, can you give a 
recipe for reproducing the failure?

It works for me (i.e., when I do this, the "a" in "cat" is highlighted in red):

  $ echo cat|zgrep --color a
  cat
