In  http://www.gnu.org/software/guix/manual/guix.html#X11-Fonts  for version 0.8.3

"Essential font packages include gs-fonts, font-dejavu, and font-gnu-freefont"

should? instead read

Essential font packages include gs-fonts, font-dejavu, and font-gnu-freefont-ttf
