This would greatly increase the number of people who can actually try
out Guix as they can use a common virtualization tool rather than
installing on their own computer.

I think we’ll end up doing that, due to popular demand.  ;-)

That said, QEMU can deal with USB images just as easily as ISO-9660
images (see
<https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/guix-devel/2014-10/msg00024.html>
for instance.)

Would it be difficult to change the format?
What's needed to provide iso in addition to what we have now or just
iso? Has someone looked into this?

We just need a tiny procedure to build the ISO.

Interesting. Can you share more info on this, for people who might want
to get to work on this, a small task list / overview? If this is already
in the original bug consider this question obsolete, I just don't have
the bug in my inbox.

There is now support for generating an ISO image of the installer
system, and I've successfully managed to use it to install GuixSD.

I've marked this as pending, and it can probably be closed once there is
a release of Guix/GuixSD which includes an ISO image installer.
