Thanks, these were bugs in the test cases. They were fixed here:

http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gzip.git/commit/?id=a963e3a42d6da62ef6d017f28ded08534ad4c805

and here:

http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gzip.git/commit/?id=6263972df3140affd285399b7957de0a17370577

The fixes should appear in the next gzip version, so I'm closing the bug report.

Hi Paul,
It's been 17 months since the last gzip release, and there
have been a few bug fixes, so I'm inclined to make a new
release. I'm preparing to update gnulib, bootstrap and NEWS.
Do you know of anything else that should be done before
I make a snapshot?

I’d love to see the rsyncable patch applied if that is possible.

Best regards

<snip>

Sort of long overdue. I think gzip 1.4 was the last release I saw that
passed all its own testsuite on Solaris SPARC and Debian Linux on
Power64 at the same time.

I just now did a bug triage. The remaining normal bugs are:

18427 (actually 16951) is waiting for 'less' to get fixed. No rush.

16876 has been present since the beginning and there's no rush.

16472 has been present since the beginning and could be serious.

Do you have time to look at 16472? The other stuff can wait, but 16472
looks like it should get fixed if it's actually a bug. On the other
hand, 16472 shouldn't block a new release....

Stuff in the TODO list (and rsyncable, which isn't in TODO but should
be) can wait.

Huffman tables. Interesting.

I'll drag it into the light and blow the dust off it. Seems like
there are two many nodes in the table at the resultant end and thats
wrong. Guess I have to also drag out my trusty CLRS book Algorithms
and review the topic.
