used in `erc-send-current-line'."

From erc.el:5272, function `erc-send-input'

    (let ((str input)
	  (erc-insert-this t))
      (setq erc-send-this t)
      (run-hook-with-args 'erc-send-pre-hook input)

STR is dynamically bound.
