So, without the line number, it is hunt-and-peck, much harder to find the section of code with the problem. Is there a way to locate the erring S-expression more quickly? I have used edebug, by the way, and am seeking something like the above as well, unless edebug can stop exactly at the line in the source code where the S-expression is broken, without having to single-step it. Thanks ahead (anyone), Stuart From cyd@stupidchicken.com Fri May 2 08:17:13 2008 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.2.3-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 (2007-08-08) on rzlab.ucr.edu X-Spam-Level: ** X-Spam-Status: No, score=2.4 required=4.0 tests=AWL,RCVD_IN_PBL, RCVD_IN_SORBS_DUL,RDNS_DYNAMIC autolearn=no version=3.2.3-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 Received: (at 180) by emacsbugs.donarmstrong.com; 2 May 2008 15:17:13 +0000 Received: from furry (c-98-216-111-182.hsd1.ma.comcast.net [98.216.111.182]) by rzlab.ucr.edu (8.13.8/8.13.8/Debian-3) with ESMTP id m42FH9no003904 for <180@emacsbugs.donarmstrong.com>; Fri, 2 May 2008 08:17:11 -0700 Received: by furry (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 22BE4C049; Fri, 2 May 2008 11:17:04 -0400 (EDT) From: Chong Yidong To: Stuart Cracraft Cc: 180@debbugs.gnu.org Subject: Re: GNU Emacs Lisp Date: Fri, 02 May 2008 11:17:03 -0400 Message-ID: <871w4k91n4.fsf@stupidchicken.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii > I see that when running a program in GNU Emacs Lisp > that errors in the message area below the mode-line but > without a line-number corresponding to the line of the > error in the source code being run. > > So, without the line number, it is hunt-and-peck, much > harder to find the section of code with the problem. Set debug-on-error to t, and you will get a backtrace, which can be used to jump to the function that signalled the error (as well as the functions that called it).
