Thanks, there's clearly a bug there, as 'configure' decides that 
pthread_sigmask doesn't exist even though it does, in -lpthread.  I've 
installed a patch in trunk bzr 117200.  I don't think this fixes your 
main bug, nor does it fix a bug in emacs-24, but one step at a time. 
I'll look at the main bug soon.
