One notices that any text entry in the minibuffer, e.g.,
$ emacs
C-h a w
cause the pointer to disappear. Hitting C-g does not cause it to
reappear either. Interesting.

Actually it is nice to have the pointer disappear sometimes.

Yes, it's a feature.  See `make-pointer-invisible'.
