characters.
And a screenshot of emacs reading that file started with emacs -Q
[vi shows it ok]

Not on my system. Here they look normal.
It could be a matter of the font used for these characters; I suggest
to try other fonts (S-mouse-1 should show a dialog where you can
select a different font).
