Indeed.  But it should work for:

   (require 'cl-lib)
   (cl-defstruct (foo (:predicate foo?)))
   (defun bar (x) (cl-check-type x foo?))

> neither for
>   (cl-defstruct (foo (:predicate nil)))

Not sure if it should work in that case,
