I've committed a patch to tramp-sh.el, and I've removed the changes from
grep.el and compile.el from a year ago.

Eli, could you please test on MS Windows? And somebody (besides me)
could test rgrep for a remote directory? We don't have an ert test case
for rgrep yet :-(

I would close the bug afterwards.
