[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Basic configuration:

    (custom-set-variables
     '(desktop-base-file-name "~/.emacs.desktop")
     '(desktop-save-mode t))

The basic steps: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/emacs-devel/2013-11/msg00330.html

Tips for reproducing this bug,

1. Have "large amount" of buffers open - I have around 20 c buffers open
   from ~/src/emacs/trunk/src/

2. Have your .emacs impose some amount of load. For example, load few
.el files or add some big chunk of customizations.

ps: Don't ask for a precise recipe.

My .emacs doesn't explicitly set the position or geometry of the initial
or default frame. i.e., NO reference to *-frame-alist variables.

My Emacs is invoked like

   src/emacs/trunk/src/emacs --debug-init

i.e., I don't specify any geometry on the command line.

I use the stock X & XFCE settings.

The exact same stuff happens with frameset restoration disabled.

    (custom-set-variables
     '(desktop-restore-frames nil))

AFAICS, this is a fairly recent behaviour since about the time frameset
changes were introduced.

Feel free to re-title the bug.
