Didn't have time to look too deep into this, but I have 2 factoids to
report:

  . this problem goes at least as far back as August

  . the diagnostic about invalid size is right: we are writing
    196-element vectors for the char-tables, instead of 130-element
    vectors; all the elements beyond the first 130 are nil.

Maybe this will ring some bells.
