The docstring says:

> sql-connection-alist is a variable defined in `sql.el'.

>
> Where CONNECTION is a symbol identifying the connection

If you use customize to edit the variable, it sets CONNECTION to a string.

I don't know whether that's a bug with customize (that might cause
problems elsewhere if other code expects a symbol?), or if it's the
documentation that's incorrect, but something presumably needs
changing here.
