Step to reproduce with latest build (1 minute ago, rev 114209):

M-x eshell RET

This yields the following error:

Debugger entered--Lisp error: (wrong-type-argument syntax-table-p nil)
  set-syntax-table(nil)
  eshell-mode()
  eshell(nil)
  call-interactively(eshell nil nil)
  command-execute(eshell)




In GNU Emacs 24.3.50.1 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 3.8.4)
 of 2013-09-11 on bzg
