Well, maybe that's the actual issue, since json.el and the python
version apparently disagree about what to do in such cases. Eg:

(json-encode '(("a" 2 3)))  ->  "{\"a\":[2, 3]}"
json.dumps([["a",2,3]])     ->  [["a", 2, 3]]
