Subject: 24.3; Text and Cursor display
--text follows this line--
I ran $emacs ~/perlfile.pl &
Another time $emacs ~/other.pl
After about an hour working (also switching between browser and music
player) emacs stopped rendering text properly. When I moved the cursor
it would not appear on whitespace. When I typed past a letter it would
sometimes show that letter as if the cursor was still on it and show the
real cursor too. The last few deleted characters were displayed until I
typed over them. Also, when entering a command in the mini-buffer the
beginning of previous commands would display until I typed over it.
This occurred in all my buffers and was not solved by reopening emacs or
redraw-display.
I logged out and back in and opened a text file in thunar and the cursor was
fine; I reopened the perl file and it's fine after editing and moving
around. However the very first time this happened (with emacs23) it didn't go away until I upgraded.
I'm running Mint Olivia, Xfce desktop. I also had this problem with emacs23 (.4 I believe) installed
from the mint software center. I upgraded using the emacs24.3 package
at launchpad.net/~cassou/+archives/emacs.
Emacs in the terminal has no problems. I'll stick with that for now -
thanks for reading this.
If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
`bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
For information about debugging Emacs, please read the file
/usr/share/emacs/24.3/etc/DEBUG.

Message #8 received at 15063 <at> debbugs.gnu.org (full text, mbox):
It sounds like redisplay is not happening when it should.
FWIW:
If so, and in case it helps, I too have seen a lack of redisplay at
some times, with this build:
In GNU Emacs 24.3.50.1 (i686-pc-mingw32)

If I notice anything more specific (e.g. context), I'll report it.

No, it doesn't sound like that.
If "reopening emacs" means restarting Emacs, it sounds like a graphics
driver bug (?).

Are you still seeing this problem?
