Here the message still when trying to save from buffer text was pasted in:

These default coding systems were tried to encode text
in the buffer `ein-2.html':
  (iso-latin-1-unix (62516 . 8211) (62535 . 8364))
However, each of them encountered characters it couldn't encode:
  iso-latin-1-unix cannot encode these: – €

So the file says it's in latin-1, but the actual contents are in
UTF-8, is that right?

Anyway, can you try with the latest trunk?  June 12 is almost a month
ago.

Actually, never mind, I see this myself.

So what would you expect Emacs to do with a file that claims to be in
Latin-1, but isn't?
