Thanks for the report.
The problem is the attached gif
(from http://newsletter.sourceforge.net/images/mlopen_post.html?rtr=on&siteid=2010001400&mid=1717213&mlid=47672&uid=0108eee4c3).

It has a screen size of 1x1, and contains a 1x1 image, but positioned
outside the screen.

`gifinfo bad.gif' reports:
  Image 1 is not confined to screen dimension, aborted.

`identify bad.gif' reports:

  bad.gif GIF 1x1 1x1+0+99 8-bit PseudoClass 2c 43b

`emacs -Q bad.gif' crashes.
