It's not only Chinese -- basically *all* non-western writing systems
are invisible in the windowed NS version. See bug#12928: 24.3.50;
24.3.50: non-western ( multilingual) text invisible (OSX - NS). The
24.3.50 build of 2012-11-06 still displays non-western scripts,
afterwards it becomes blocks of emptiness.
