Yes, I dislike nested backquotes, but for some reason after writing the
"single-level" backquote version of the code, I ended up finding it even
more confusing than the nested-backquote version.

I do not remember this happening to me until now, so either something
makes this case different, or I'm becoming more tolerant of
nested backquotes.
