Reproducible for me on RHEL 6.2.

If I disable global-font-lock-mode first, it works fine. I get
an inferior python mode buffer with contents:

Python 2.6.6 (r266:84292, Sep 11 2012, 05:25:09)
[GCC 4.4.6 20120305 (Red Hat 4.4.6-4)] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
py> py> py> py>

Enabling font-lock mode here leads to a hang, so presumably there is
something pathological in the python font-lock keywords.

PS Fabian, you seem to be using an invalid email address in your
ChangeLog entries (may or may not be intentional?).
