I can't reproduce this report either.  This is a shot in the dark, but try running Emacs like this:

% MallocBadFreeAbort=1 MallocScribble=1 MallocPreScribble=1 MallocCheckHeapEach=10 MallocGuardEdges=1 MallocCheckHeapStart=1 MallocCheckHeapAbort=1 MallocStackLogging=1 <path>/nextstep/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs  -Q

where <path> is where you installed Emacs (as you used --disable-ns-self-contained).

See if it prints something useful when you open the file and send it here if it does.
