I can't reproduce this, but I have seen it several times.

I have a Dired buffer displaying the directory ~/outgoing. I type g,
and some file whose name starts in .# does not show up.
I see that file when I type ls outside Emacs, but it is missing
from the Dired buffer.

When it does happen, is it reproducible? That is, if you repeatedly
type `g', does that file never show up? If so, could you perhaps step
in a debugger through dired-redin and its subroutines, when you do
encounter the bug, and see what is going on there?

Btw, does that happen in Dired buffers that read the entire directory,
or buffers that show only some files specified by a wildcard (or
both)?

My memory is not firm, but I think it never shows up.

However, if I start a new Emacs, then the file appears.
(I think it also appears if I kill the buffer and make a new one.)
That is an obstacle to using GDB on it.

Btw, does that happen in Dired buffers that read the entire directory,
or buffers that show only some files specified by a wildcard (or
    both)?

I have only seen the problem in buffers visiting an entire directory.
However, my usage of Dired buffers with wildcards is much more infrequent,
so I have no evidence about whether the problem can happen in them.

That is strange: typing `g' in a Dired buffer showing a complete
directory does the same as reading that directory in the first time.
So I guess there's some subtle issue with dired-insert-directory vs
dired-readin.

My suggestion is still to step with Edebug through Dired functions
invoked by `g', when this problem happens.

Ok, I will try that if I see it again.

Possibly you have dired-x loaded and typed M-o
by accident. This invokes dired-omit-mode, which
causes "uninteresting" files to not be displayed.
By default, files starting with .# are uninteresting.

If my guess is right, you can type M-o again
to toggle the flag, and make the .#* files visible again.

I think we have a winner. Closing this bug; if it turns out to be a
different issue, please reopen.
